New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday greeted Dalai Lama on his 88th birthday. Modi’s public articulation on his call to Dalai Lama for the second year in a row comes amid the slide in India-China ties over the military standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Modi tweeted, “Spoke to His Holiness @ DaLaiLama and conveyed heartfelt greetings to him on his 88th birthday. Wishing him a long and healthy life.”
Dalai Lama celebrated his 88th birthday on Thursday, as hundreds of his supporters and exiled Tibetans thronged his hillside Indian Headquarters in Dharmasala Aritists played traditional welcome tunes as the Tibetan spiritual leader arrived in his open mobile van to preside over the ce;ebrations in the courtyard of the Tsuglakhang Temple, which was festooned with Tibetan and Buddhist flags and portraits
Dalai Lama made the hillside town of Dharmasala his headquarters since fleeing from Tibet after failed uprising against Chinese rule in 1959.
