The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi, addressed questions regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to France and whether it aimed to counter Chinese influence. Bagchi emphasised that India’s relationship with each country stands on its own merits.
“Our relationships stand on their own with each of these countries, and we would certainly like to strengthen and deepen them,” Bagchi stated during a press briefing.
He further mentioned that there are several important issues on the agenda for PM Modi’s visit to France, which will be disclosed in due course.
Highlighting the ongoing diplomatic engagements, Bagchi mentioned that the diplomatic advisor of France had already arrived and met with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, who is a key interlocutor for the visit.
Earlier in the day, Emmanuel Bonne, Diplomatic Advisor to French President Emmanuel Macron, held extensive discussions with NSA Ajit Doval to prepare for PM Modi’s visit.
PM Modi has been invited as the Guest of Honour for France’s National Day on July 14 by President Macron. Additionally, Macron extended an invitation to Modi to attend the Bastille Day Parade in Paris. Notably, PM Modi’s visit coincides with the 25th anniversary of the “strategic partnership” between France and India.
