New Delhi: Amid the ongoing Monsoon Session at Parliament, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) Rajasthan MPs and senior party leaders staged a protest in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue on the premises. The protest was in response to the alarming issues of “rising atrocities and crime against women” in the state. The demonstrators, led by BJP MP Harnath Singh Yadav, voiced their concern over the failure of the Rajasthan government to protect women.
Yadav emphasised, “There are atrocities against women in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Manipur. While the opposition focuses on Manipur, Rajasthan and other states have been ignored. The Rajasthan government has failed to safeguard women in the state.” BJP Rajasthan State President and MP CP Joshi also echoed these sentiments and demanded Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s resignation, holding him responsible for the escalating crimes against women in Rajasthan.
“Our demand is that Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot resign for not being able to protect women in the state. The atrocities against women in the state have been increasing in the last few years,” stated CP Joshi. BJP leader and MP Rajyavardhan Rathore expressed support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of women’s safety in the country, praising the government’s efforts, such as the construction of 11 crore toilets and implementing measures to create behavioural change.
Rathore also highlighted the introduction of laws providing for the death penalty in cases of rape involving victims under 12 years old and the establishment of fast-track courts, funded by the Indian government, to expedite justice for victims. West Bengal State BJP Chief Sukanta Majumdar criticised the Opposition for overlooking the atrocities against women in West Bengal and focusing only on incidents in Manipur. She pointed out that the situation in West Bengal has worsened, demanding greater attention and action.
Adding his voice to the demands, BJP MP Ravi Kishan called for Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s resignation, emphasising the need to stop the atrocities against Dalit women, which have seen a significant increase. The protest on July 21 was triggered by the horrifying killings in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, and the ongoing cases of violence against women in the state.
