Srinagar: The Srinagar Police squad achieved a huge breakthrough on Saturday when they successfully apprehended a high-profile terrorist linked with the outlawed organisation Al-Badr. The apprehended person was identified as Arfat Yusuf, a Rajpora Pulwama inhabitant. The operation was carried out based on particular intelligence, which led to his arrest in the Batamaloo neighbourhood of the city.
Arfat Yusuf, described as a hybrid terrorist, had been actively planning terror activities in the region. Hybrid terrorists are known for their ability to carry out attacks and then seamlessly blend back into their routine lives, making them particularly challenging to track down. During the arrest, the police recovered incriminating material from Yusuf’s possession, including a pistol, 20 live rounds, and two magazines. This arsenal of arms and ammunition indicated the seriousness of his intentions to execute a terror attack in Srinagar.
According to preliminary investigations, it was revealed that Yusuf had been involved in previous terror-related activities in the South Kashmir Range. His latest attempt to unleash terror in Srinagar was foiled just in time, thanks to the timely intervention of law enforcement.
The suspect had a history of targeting security forces, having thrown grenades on two separate occasions. The first incident involved a CRPF vehicle in Rajpora, while the second targeted the CRPF/RR Camp at Hawal, Rajpora Pulwama. Furthermore, Yusuf was found to have been involved in spreading terror propaganda, as he was responsible for pasting posters promoting the concept of the “Lone Wolf Warrior” on March 26 and March 10 earlier this year.
The police spokesperson disclosed that numerous terror cases have already been registered against Arfat Yusuf, underscoring the magnitude of his involvement in such activities.
With this successful arrest, law enforcement agencies have managed to thwart a potential terror attack in Srinagar. A case has been registered against the terrorist, and further investigations are underway to dismantle any associated terror networks.
