Chennai: In a major breakthrough against illegal wildlife trafficking, authorities at Trichy International Airport seized a shocking number of 47 pythons and two lizards from a traveller’s trolley bag. The incident unfolded when a passenger arrived at the airport from Kuala Lumpur on a Batik Air flight.
The apprehended individual, identified as Muhammad Moideen, was arrested after the reptiles were discovered during a customs inspection conducted on suspicion. The python smuggling attempt came to light when authorities noticed Moideen’s trolley bag contained an unusually high number of small boxes.
Prompt action was taken by forest guards, who swiftly arrived at the airport to handle the situation. The seized reptiles were carefully secured, and measures were taken to ensure their safe return to their country of origin, Malaysia.
Muhammad Moideen was taken into custody for questioning, and further investigations are underway to determine the full extent of his involvement and potential links to wildlife trafficking networks.
