New Delhi: Speaking at the 9th Confederation of Indian Industry-LAC Conclave in the capital city, Minister of External Affairs, S Jaishankar, highlighted the remarkable progress in India’s connections with Latin American and Caribbean regions during the last nine years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Jaishankar underscored the robust growth in bilateral trade and the flourishing people-to-people ties linking India with the Latin America and Caribbean regions.
Addressing the event, Jaishankar said, “Over the last nine years since PM Modi has been at the helm, our ties have moved on a new trajectory. India’s relationship with the region is being nurtured across the full spectrum. Latin America and Caribbean regions have witnessed notable engagements with 34 high-level visits which include six visits each from the President and the Vice President and four from the Prime Minister.”
“The most recent, of course, among them has been the visit of our president to Suriname, where she was conferred the country’s highest order,” he added. Jaishankar also pointed out that his own visits to the region have been frequent, though hampered by two years of COVID-19 challenges.
Furthermore, the Foreign Minister highlighted India’s role as an early supplier of COVID vaccines to its Latin American partners. He emphasised India’s leadership in successfully executing vital infrastructure projects in the Latin America Caribbean region, particularly in the realm of power transmission.
Jaishankar also outlined four key pillars that underpin the deepening engagement between India and Latin America, including the development of resilient Supply Chains.
