Srinagar: On August 5, the first group of Agniveers from the J&K Light Infantry Regiment successfully completed their rigorous training, according to the Indian Army. A significant ceremony was held at the Nongrum Auditorium of the JAK LI Regimental Centre to commemorate this historic milestone. The event was attended by the parents and mentors who had been part of their intensive 31-week training journey, according to the PRO (Defence) in Srinagar.
The Agnipath initiative involves the selection of candidates to serve as Agniveers for a period of four years. Following this term, Agniveers will transition into society as disciplined, dynamic, and skilled professionals ready for employment across various sectors. Depending on the organisational requirements, Agniveers will have the opportunity to apply for a permanent cadre. A portion of up to 25 percent of Agniveers will be chosen for enrolment as regular cadres within the Armed Forces. In April of this year, the Ministry of Home Affairs made a decision to allocate 10 percent of general duty constable positions, out of the total 1, 29,929 sanctioned posts, in the Central Reserve Police Force for ex-Agniveers.
The Ministry issued a notification that stated, “In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 18 of the Central Reserve Police Force Act, 1949 (66 of 1949) and in supersession of the Central Reserve Police Force Group ‘C’ (General Duty/Technical/Tradesmen) Cadre Recruitment Rules, 2010 in so far as they relate to the post of (General Duty Cadre), Constable, except as respects things done or omitted to be done before such supersession, the Central Government hereby makes the following rules regulating the method of recruitment to the post of Constable (General Duty) in Group ‘C’ post, General Duty Cadre in the Central Reserve Police Force.”
