New Delhi: Mary Millben, an American singer known for her powerful performances, voiced her support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the Manipur issue. Her endorsement came shortly after PM Modi’s address in Parliament addressing a no-confidence motion against his government.
The African-American vocalist, who had previously delivered India’s national anthem during PM Modi’s US visit, expressed her unwavering faith in India’s leader. She asserted her belief in the eventual delivery of justice to the women of Manipur.
On her official account on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Millben shared her perspective. She stated, “The truth: India has confidence in its leader. The mothers, daughters, and women of Manipur, India will receive justice. And PM Modi will always fight for your freedom.”
Millben criticised opposition parties in India, highlighting, “The truth: to associate with a party that dishonors cultural legacy, denies children the right to sing the anthem of its country, and degrades one’s country abroad, this is not leadership. This is unprincipled.” Drawing a parallel between her support for PM Modi and the ideals of the late American civil rights movement leader Martin Luther King Jr., she invoked his renowned words, “let freedom ring.”
In his response to the no-confidence motion within the Lok Sabha, PM Modi assured Manipur’s people that both the central and state governments are unitedly working to restore peace in the strife-torn region. He reasserted his commitment to ensuring stringent punishments for those found guilty of grave crimes against women.

Addressing the clashes that transpired in Manipur on May 3, PM Modi stated, “A grievous crime against women occurred in Manipur, and it is utterly unpardonable. Collaborative efforts by the central and state governments are underway to ensure the harshest penalties for those accountable.”
“I appeal to the people of Manipur, especially the women that the nation stands in solidarity with you. We will confront this challenge together and re-establish tranquillity,” PM Modi asserted during his Lok Sabha speech.
