Amritsar: In an operation conducted in the early hours of today morning, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel thwarted an infiltration attempt along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district. A Pakistani intruder was shot and killed by BSF troops as he attempted to breach the border security fence. The BSF reported that suspicious movements near the international border were detected, prompting the troops to assume defensive positions.
According to a statement by the BSF, the incident occurred near the village of Thekalan in Tarn Taran district. The intruder, despite being challenged by the BSF forces, continued advancing towards the border fence. Fearing an imminent threat and to prevent further escalation, the BSF troops resorted to firing in self-defence, resulting in the intruder’s immediate demise.
This incident follows a recent event in May, where BSF personnel neutralised two unidentified intruders from Pakistan who had crossed into Indian territory. During the same period, a Pakistani national was apprehended near the international border in Punjab. The BSF has been highly vigilant and active along the Punjab Frontier, successfully intercepting 22 drones, confiscating 316 kgs of drugs, seizing 67 weapons and 850 rounds, as well as detaining 23 Pakistani nationals in various incidents throughout the year 2022.
The BSF continues to maintain a heightened state of alertness and vigilance in its efforts to secure the border region. The successful response to intrusions and the interception of illicit activities are indicative of the BSF’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity and security of the nation’s borders.
