New Delhi: During the 19th round of Corps Commander-level talks between India and China, held on August 13 and 14 at the Chushul-Moldo border in eastern Ladakh, both nations came to an agreement aimed at restoring peace in conflict areas along the border. The Ministry of External Affairs released an official statement confirming this development.
The discussions between the two sides revolved around addressing the Line of Actual Control (LAC) situation in the western sector. Notably, China displayed a cooperative stance, following the leadership’s directives. Both parties have committed to expediting both military and diplomatic dialogues to effectively tackle the remaining challenges and uphold tranquility in the border regions until a resolution is achieved.
Despite four phases of disengagement in areas like the Galwan Valley, Pangong Tso, Goga, and Hot Springs, sizeable military deployments are still in place on both sides. Ongoing talks are focusing on resolving issues at Depsang in the Daulat Beg Oldi sector and the Charding Nullah junction in the Demchok sector. It is worth recalling that tensions escalated in 2020 due to clashes between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Galwan Valley. Consequently, bilateral relations between the two nations were strained. However, concerted efforts are underway to mend and reconcile these ties.
