New Delhi: An operation carried out by the Delhi Police has led to the arrest of a drug cartel smuggling heroin and opium from Manipur, operating within Delhi. The police have successfully confiscated a staggering 56 kg amount of opium, valued at ₹40 crores.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, HGS Dhaliwal, the Commissioner of Delhi Police, emphasised that these individuals serve as pivotal figures within the network responsible for trafficking narcotics from Manipur to Delhi. The narcotics were transported to the capital from Manipur, with Raj Kumar (38) and Paramjeet Singh (53), originally from Jammu and Kashmir, overseeing the operations. Their connections extend prominently to drug syndicates in Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar.

Both Raj Kumar and Paramjeet Singh have been taken into custody by the Delhi Police, while efforts are diligently underway to apprehend the remaining members of the criminal organization. Acting on a tip-off, the police had been meticulously tracking the movements of this drug trafficking group for the past four months, lead to their recent arrest. Commissioner Dhaliwal confirmed that the investigation into this case is actively progressing.

In a broader context, the Ministry of Home Affairs is conducting an exhaustive inquiry into the influx of drugs originating from the north-eastern states, including Manipur. Over the past few years, there has been a worrisome escalation in the volume of seized drugs at border states, with the trend also extending to the north-eastern regions where the boundaries of Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos converge.
