The Delhi Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against a senior government official from Delhi on charges of repeatedly raping a 16-year-old girl over a span of several months, as disclosed by police officials familiar with the case on Sunday. As per reports, the distressing series of sexual assaults resulted in the victim’s pregnancy, ultimately leading to the termination of the pregnancy through abortion pills administered by the suspect’s wife.
According to a spokesperson for the Delhi government, the accused holds the position of deputy director within the Department of Women and Child Development. The government is resolute in its stance against such heinous crimes and, if proven guilty, intends to take severe punitive measures against the accused, the spokesperson affirmed.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), Sagar Singh Kalsi, reported the registration of a comprehensive case at the Burari police station, encompassing charges of rape, molestation, criminal intimidation, criminal conspiracy, causing hurt, miscarriage without consent, criminal conspiracy, common intention, and offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
At present, the accused remains at large as the investigation into the allegations remains ongoing.
Investigations reveal that the victim, residing with her parents in a northern Delhi neighbourhood, crossed paths with the accused at a religious venue in Burari, which both families frequently attended. The girl’s father, who held a senior position in the Delhi government, passed away in 2020, while her mother also holds an official role within the government.
Subsequent to her father’s demise, the minor girl reportedly began residing with the accused in Burari from October 2020 to February 2021. The complainant alleges that during this period, the accused subjected her to various forms of abuse, including sexual harassment, physical molestation, and repeated instances of rape. These traumatic experiences led to anxiety episodes, prompting her hospitalisation a week ago. Following intensive psychological counselling, she eventually confided in medical professionals, counsellors, and law enforcement officials, sharing details of the sexual harassment she endured.
Moreover, the minor disclosed that she became pregnant during this time and was coerced into terminating the pregnancy through the administration of abortion pills by the suspect’s wife. Medical and legal examinations have been conducted, and the investigation remains active.
The suspect has not responded to phone calls and messages requesting a statement.
A spokesperson for the Delhi government emphasised that the accused holds the position of deputy director within the Women and Child Development (WCD) department. Affirming the importance of the legal process, the spokesperson reasserted the government’s dedication to women’s safety and child protection. If the accused is found guilty of such reprehensible actions, the spokesperson called for the most stringent actions to be taken against him.
