New Delhi: Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted India’s proactive role in global development during his address at the B20 summit. He underscored India’s readiness to lead discussions on development matters in developing countries and emphasised the nation’s swift response to crises, ranging from natural disasters to conflicts, in various parts of the world.
Speaking at the Business 20 (B20) summit, which serves as a platform for discussions between the global business community , S. Jaishankar emphasised that India has consistently taken the initiative to drive discussions in developing nations. The country has emerged as a first responder to emergencies and conflicts, extending assistance to countries as diverse as Fiji, Myanmar, Mozambique, Yemen, and Turkey.
In particular, Jaishankar highlighted India’s remarkable contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic, branding the nation as the “world’s pharmacy”. By exporting vaccines to over 100 countries, India has demonstrated its commitment to global well-being by offering assistance during a critical period of health crisis.
The External Affairs Minister also emphasised India’s increasing engagement in global development. Over the past decade, India’s development initiatives have extended to 78 countries, with more than 600 projects executed and others in progress. This robust participation stands as a testament to India’s capabilities and its evolving role on the global stage.
Jaishankar underlined India’s pivotal position in the global landscape, asserting that the nation now occupies a central role in discussions about international development.
The three-day B20 summit, which commenced on August 25, is centred around the theme of responsible and fast-growing sustainable businesses. With the participation of over 1,500 delegates from 55 countries, the summit serves as a precursor to the upcoming G20 meetings. Scheduled for the following month, the G20 meetings will host various political leaders and dignitaries in Delhi.
