Lucknow: New revelations have emerged regarding the benami properties of former MP and mafia leader Atiq Ahmed. The Income Tax Department has reportedly obtained information suggesting that Atiq Ahmed acquired the property using the identity of a watchman who was associated with him.
Atiq Ahmed allegedly purchased multiple plots under the name of Sooraj Pal, who served as a watchman for gambler Mohammad Ashraf. The government has reportedly issued attachment orders in connection with this matter. Muhammad Ashraf was believed to be a close associate of Atiq Ahmed. Properties worth more than 10 crores in various regions of Prayagraj are alleged to be registered under the name of Suraj Pal. Currently, Suraj Pal holds a Below Poverty Line (BPL) card. It is reported that Atiq was getting help from the Samajwadi Party to acquire benami properties.
