Lucknow: In a move aimed at ensuring the well-being of senior citizens within the state, the Yogi government is poised to take significant action. The government of Uttar Pradesh is actively considering amending laws that will prosecute people for evicting their parents from their properties.
The proposed alterations center around amending the ‘UP Maintenance of Parents and Senior Citizens Rules 2014′, where children who force their elderly parents out of their properties could face legal consequences. The Uttar Pradesh Law Commission has meticulously drafted these amendments and subsequently forwarded them to the state government for consideration.
Although the parental maintenance regulations were initially formulated in 2014, they lacked comprehensive provisions safeguarding senior citizens’ properties from being unjustly seized by their own children. Judicial rulings have underscored instances of older parents being displaced from their properties by their offspring. These court decisions have been extensively reviewed by the law commission, exposing the inadequacies of the previous regulations in adequately shielding senior citizens.
The government is poised to make deliberations on these recommendations in the near future.
