Chennai: Another arrest has been made in connection with the car bomb blast that occurred in Coimbatore. Mohammad Azharuddin, a resident of Ukkadam Anbu Nagar, has been apprehended, marking the thirteenth individual to be implicated in this case. Notably, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) team apprehended Azharuddin while he was incarcerated in Viyyur jail on unrelated charges.

The investigation into the Coimbatore car bomb blast, which transpired on October 23, 2022, near Sangameshwarar Temple in Ukkadam, has seen significant developments. On April 20, the NIA filed a charge sheet against six initial suspects. Subsequently, on June 2, an additional chargesheet was filed against five more individuals. These charge sheets included various sections, including those under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The NIA’s investigations have revealed that the accused individuals were allegedly motivated by the ideology of the IS to carry out the attack. The case continues to be under the scrutiny of the investigation team, with ongoing efforts to identify and apprehend any other possible associates or individuals linked to the incident.
