New Delhi: The eagerly awaited last date for nominations for the prestigious Padma Awards, traditionally announced on the occasion of Republic Day, has been unveiled. Aspiring candidates and nominators now have until September 15 to submit their nominations for these esteemed honours that recognise exceptional contributions in various fields. Since May 1, nominations have been accepted online through the Rashtriya Lawari portal.
The Padma Awards, comprising the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri, represent some of India’s highest civilian honors. Annually, these awards are announced on the eve of Republic Day, celebrating individuals who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments across diverse domains, including art, literature, education, sports, social work, science, engineering, and civil service.
It’s important to note that government employees working in public sector organisations are ineligible for Padma Awards. The awards are intended to honour excellence and dedication among those who have made a significant impact on society beyond their professional roles.
Furthermore, the criteria for eligibility are inclusive, with a focus on diversity and representation. Women, individuals from backward classes, persons with disabilities, and social workers are all eligible for these prestigious awards. This inclusivity emphasises the nation’s commitment to acknowledging and appreciating the rich tapestry of talent and service that spans its populace.
