CHENNAI: The 43rd annual convocation of Anna University, Chennai, took place last Tuesday. Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi, who serves as the Chancellor of Anna University, presided over the event and conferred degrees upon the candidates. NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery and Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy also participated in the 43rd convocation program.
A total of 1.25 lakh candidates graduated from various streams, including undergraduate, postgraduate, M.S., and Ph.D. programs at the university for the year 2022. Gold medalists and Ph.D. graduates received their degrees from Governor and University Chancellor RN Ravi during the ceremony.
During his chief guest address, Suman Bery, NITI Aayog Vice Chairman, emphasized that young graduates are a vital part of India’s take-off and trajectory. He expressed the country’s anticipation for young research scholars to create new systems, solve local and global problems, and bring about positive changes in society. He listed some challenges for India’s development that must be addressed by the graduates, emphasizing the need for sustainable development to tackle rapid urbanization and regional imbalances.
Regarding the Prime Minister’s collective goal of ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047 for everyone, Mr. Bery stated that there were many reasons to believe that this moment could mark India’s take-off.
Dr. R Velraj, Anna University Vice-Chancellor, mentioned that more than three lakh students have benefited from the Chief Minister’s ‘Naan Mudhalvan’ scheme. He also highlighted that Anna University secured 13 ranks at the all-India level in the engineering course category.
Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy, Higher Education Secretary A Karthik, and other dignitaries were also present at the event.
