Chennai: Customs officials have taken action by booking 113 out of the 186 passengers on the flight for their involvement in smuggling gold and electronic devices to evade duty. The case pertains to the passengers of the Oman Airlines flight from Muscat, and the incident occurred at Chennai International Airport.
The group offered chocolates, perfumes, and other items as gifts to those who assisted in the smuggling operation. Customs authorities seized goods worth Rs. 14 crore from the individuals involved in the smuggling.
All 186 people were detained and checked on the basis of secret information. 13 kg of gold were found hidden in underwear in various forms like biscuits, mixtures, spring wire, etc. Hidden within secret compartments of suitcases and bags, authorities uncovered 20 iPhones, 84 Android phones, foreign cigarettes, saffron, and laptops. Following the discovery, all 113 individuals were released on bail.
