THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The blockbuster Malayalam movie, “2018: Everyone is a Hero,” directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, has been selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2024. This survival drama film is based on the devastating floods that struck Kerala in 2018.
The members of The Film Federation of India have chosen “Malayalam 2018” (also known as “2018: Everyone is a Hero”) to represent India in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 96th Academy Awards, scheduled for the coming year, Oscar 2024. The announcement was made today during a press conference held at The South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce in Chennai.
Addressing the press conference, Girish Kasaravalli, chairman of the selection committee, announced that the Malayalam movie had been selected for its highly relevant theme of ‘climate change’ and its portrayal of the hardships faced by the people in the film.
In response to the news during his interaction with the media, Tovino expressed, “Being chosen as India’s official entry for the Oscars is truly an incredible recognition for our film. It’s not just a moment of pride for me as an actor, but also for the entire team that poured their heart and soul into this project.”
It is noteworthy that last year, the Telugu-language epic “RRR” won an Academy Award for Best Original Song, despite not being selected as a contender in the Best International Film category.
