CHENNAI: Mobile phone usage restrictions inside the Arulmigu Dhandayuthapani Swamy temple in Palani will be enforced starting October 1. This restriction has been mandated by a Tamil Nadu High Court order.
The temple authorities informed the court that the imposition of mobile usage restrictions is aimed at preventing disturbances to other devotees. To accommodate this change, the temple authorities have set up ‘mobile phone security clock rooms’ for the convenience of devotees, who can use this facility for a fee of Rs 5.
This decision follows similar measures taken by some temples in Karnataka. Temples under the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Department in Karnataka have also banned the use of mobile phones due to the disturbance they were causing to other devotees.
