New Delhi: Google has removed a staggering 137 loan apps from its Play Store. The targeted apps are predominantly used for obtaining loans within the Finance section of the Play Store. Out of 200 apps falling under the finance category, Google identified and eliminated those deemed suspicious, aligning with concerns raised by both users and regulatory authorities.
The central government had already initiated strict actions against loan apps, particularly those engaged in predatory lending practices. Many of the now-removed apps had amassed significant user bases, exceeding 1 lakh downloads. Google also removed 75 apps last week.
Crucially, Google has removed loan apps that have been available on the Play Store since 2022.
