New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has introduced a registration portal, enabling foreign universities to establish campuses in Bharat. The UGC initiated the portal after releasing notifications outlining the final criteria for campus openings. Foreign universities seeking to establish a presence in Bharat can now register through fhei.ugc.ac.in. An appointed UGC committee will assess these applications, scrutinizing aspects such as university operations, offered courses, and overall credibility. A comprehensive report will be submitted to the commission within 60 days of the examination.
Upon UGC approval, foreign universities can commence operations within two years. Decisions on course fees, appointments, salaries, and related matters will be at the discretion of the foreign universities. The UGC has additionally outlined specific guidelines, prohibiting online and distance classes and requiring foreign teachers to have resided in Bharat for a minimum of one semester.
