Panaji: Excitement is building in Goa as the International Film Festival (IFFI) approaches, and it is scheduled to take place from the 20th to the 28th of this month. “Catching Dust,” directed by Stuart Gatt, will be screened to commence the festival, while the festival will be concluded by screening “The Featherweight,” directed by Robert Kolodny’s.
The Malayalam film “Aattam” will be screened in Panorama. Other notable Malayalam films, including “Iratta,” “Naa Than Case Kodu,” “Pookalam,” “2018,” are featured in the list of films to be screened.
Renowned director Shekhar Kapur leads the international competition category jury, overseeing the evaluation of 270 films showcased at the festival. Union Minister Anurag Thakur has announced that a web series will also be awarded this time.
Hollywood star and producer Michael Douglas will be honoured with the prestigious Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award for his significant contributions to world cinema.
Various venues, including INOX – Panaji, INOX Porvorim, and The Z Square Cine Samrat Ashok will host film screenings. However, despite Goa’s iconic Kala Academy being part of IFFI this year, no films are scheduled to be screened at the academy.
Beyond film screenings, IFFI promises lively debates with the participation of renowned celebrities. Hollywood star Michael Douglas, along with Indian actors Sara Ali Khan, Rani Mukerji, Vidya Balan, Sunny Deol, Nawazuddin Siddiqui Naseeruddin Shah, Boney Kapoor, Madhur Bhandarkar, Brendan Galvin., JJohn L. Goldwater, Vijay Sethupathi, Manoj Bajpayee, Kartiki Gonsalves, Allu Arvind and others, will contribute to the film discussions.
