Mumbai: A Mumbai resident was cheated after responding to an online advertisement promising discounted Thali meals. A total of Rs. 38,000 had been stolen from his account. The incident led to the arrest of Faizan Moden and Irfan Malik, both residents of Ahmedabad, by the Mumbai police.
The victim, attracted by the offer seen on social media, visited the website, where he expected to receive a discount of Rs 50 on Thali meals. However, upon clicking, he received a message notifying him of the withdrawal of Rs 38,000 from his account. Realising he had fallen victim to a scam, he reported the incident to the police.
A case has been registered against the accused individuals under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for cheating, along with various sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act.
