New Delhi: The Indian Navy unveiled a new design for Admirals’ Epaulettes, inspired by the royal seal of ‘Shivaji Maharaj.’ The unveiling ceremony took place today following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement during the Navy Day 2023 celebrations at Sindhudurg in Maharashtra. The new design marks a departure from previous design, symbolizing a significant shift in the Navy’s outlook.
Taking inspiration from the Naval Ensign, the revamped design incorporates elements influenced by the Rajmudra of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The Rajmudra, or Royal Seal, holds historical significance as an authentic stamp used by Shivaji Maharaj in his official communications and decrees. This design pays homage to the rich legacy of Shivaji Maharaj, who received the Rajmudra from his father Shahajiraje Bhosale.
The Admirals’ Epaulettes showcase distinctive elements, including the Golden Navy Button, the Octagon, the Sword, and the Telescope. The Golden Navy Button symbolizes the Navy’s commitment to shedding colonial ideologies, while the Octagon represents a forward-looking vision encompassing all cardinal directions. The Sword embodies the Navy’s primary purpose, emphasizing its role as the vanguard of national power, dedicated to triumphing in wars, overcoming adversaries, and facing challenges head-on. The Telescope serves as a symbol of long-term vision, foresight, and vigilance in an ever-evolving world.
