Jammu: The maiden batch of this season has started their holy journey to Himalayan cave shrine amid tight security. The yatra will conclude on 15 August.
The pilgrims started from the Baltal base camp of Ganderbal district this morning. The Himalayan cave shrine, situated at 3888 metres from the sea level, remains open during this period and lacs of devotees visit each year.
Jammu Kashmir Governor Sathyapal Malik’s advisor K K Sharma flagged off the yatra, following pooja at the Jammu base camp. The pilgrims include 1174 men, 379 women, 15 children and 49 saints.A team with 2800 devotees have already started their pilgrimage and this team has 2321 men,463 women and 16 children. 1.5 lacs devotees have registered their names for this year’s yatra.
Security has been beefed up this year as there were Intelligence report regarding the probable terror attack.
