New Delhi: Arindam Bagchi, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), is set to assume the new role of Bharat’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) and other international organizations in Geneva. The Ministry of External Affairs has confirmed that Bagchi, presently serving as Additional Secretary in the MEA, will undertake the new assignment in the near future.
In an official statement, the MEA announced, “Arindam Bagchi (IFS:1995), presently Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, has been appointed as the next Ambassador/Permanent Representative of Bharat to the United Nations and other International Organisations in Geneva.”
Arindam Bagchi, a 1995-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, has been Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs and took on the role of spokesperson in March 2021. His tenure as spokesperson coincided with significant events, including the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the border standoff with China in eastern Ladakh, Bharat hosting the G20 Summit in September, and the heightened pace of Bharat’s diplomatic engagements with various partners.
