Banaskantha : A truck driver, Bacha Khan, has been arrested for offering namaz (Muslim prayer) on the roadside in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district. The man was arrested following a viral video of the incident, wherein his namaz on the road stopped passing vehicles.
The video, recorded on January 12, captured Khan praying near his truck at an busy highway road near Palanpur city. The incident unfolded on a highway near a busy intersection, where Bacha Khan, having stopped his truck, began his prayers. The video gained traction on social media platforms, prompting swift police intervention.
Khan has been charged under Sections 283 (endangerment on public road), 186 (obstructing the performance of duties of a public servant), and 188 (disobedience to an order issued by a public servant).
The police asserted that the act of praying on a public road poses a potential danger and obstructs the duties of public servants. The arrest highlights the growing influence of social media in bringing attention to such incidents and the subsequent legal actions taken by authorities to maintain public safety.
