New Delhi: Interim Budget 2024 was presented by the Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman today. In her budget speech, she highlighted that 43% female enrolment in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) courses is one of the highest in the world. The total budget outlay for school and higher education for the upcoming financial year 2024-25 is Rs 1,20,627.87 crore, a 6.84% increase compared to last year.
During her budget speech, Minister Sitharaman highlighted a significant 28% increase in female enrollment in higher education over the past decade. The Skill India mission has played a pivotal role in this progress, having successfully trained 1.4 crore youth, upskilled and reskilled 54 lakh individuals, and established 3,000 new Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).
The government’s commitment to education is further evident in the establishment of 7 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), 16 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), 7 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), 15 All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), and 390 universities.
