Agra: The Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM) has submitted a petition in an Agra court, seeking a restraining order against the observance of the ‘Urs’ at Taj Mahal. The organization is also contesting the unrestricted access to the Taj Mahal during the ‘Urs’. The court has acknowledged the petition, and a hearing on the matter is scheduled for March 4.
The celebration of three-day ‘Urs’ will take place this year from February 6 to February 8. The period marks the death of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, who ordered the construction of the Taj Mahal in 1653 on the banks of Yamuna in Agra.
Sanjay Jat, the national spokesperson for the ABHM, revealed that he utilized the Right To Information (RTI) to request information from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). His query sought clarification on whether the Mughals, the British government, or the Indian government granted permission for the ‘Urs’ commemoration.
In response, the ASI stated that no such permission had been granted to the ‘Urs’ organizing committee. Hence, the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha has taken the matter to court to halt the practice.
