New Delhi: In order to achieve and promote girls education, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has introduced a scholarship programme aimed at providing financial aid to single girl children across the country, enabling them to pursue higher education without financial constraints. This initiative is a significant step towards empowering female members of families through education.
Under this scheme, eligible students can apply for the scholarship for single girls by completing the application form available on the official UGC website. The scheme is designed to benefit 3,000 girls annually, providing them with monthly financial assistance for a period of two years.
Key features of the scholarship programme include:
- Monthly monetary support of Rs 3100 for a duration of two years, disbursed directly into the beneficiary’s bank account.
- Students are required to submit a ‘Continuation Certificate’ every three months in the prescribed format.
- Eligibility criteria stipulating admission into a regular, full-time 1st-year master’s degree course in a designated university or postgraduate college.
- Applicants must be the single child of their parents, with no siblings. Exceptions are made for twin daughters or fraternal daughters.
- Age limit of 30 years at the time of admission into the PG programme.
- Exclusion of candidates admitted through the distance education mode.
- Absence of income criteria for eligibility.
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Admission into a regular, full-time first-year master’s degree programme at a designated university or postgraduate college.
- Status as the single child of her parents, with no siblings.
- Exceptions are made for twin daughters or fraternal daughters.
- Age not exceeding 30 years at the time of admission into the postgraduate programme.
- Exclusion of candidates enrolled in distance education programmes from eligibility.
- There are no income criteria for eligibility.

- Income Certificate and Caste Certificate.
- Proof of admission.
- Bank account details.
- Fee structure of the programme.
- Passport-size photograph and signature.
- Student identity card.
- Affidavit on ₹ 50 stamp paper, attested by a competent authority, affirming the single-child status.

To apply for the scholarship, follow these steps:
- Visit the official website of the National Scholarship Portal.
- Register as a new user and fill out the registration form.
- Verify your mobile number using the OTP.
- Log in using your credentials and fill out the application form.
- Upload the required documents.
- Submit the application form and take a printout for future reference.
