Kolkata: A high-level committee of the BJP to investigate the sexual assault on women in Sandeshkhali, will visit the site today. BJP National President JP Nadda announced that a six-member committee comprising Union Ministers and MPs will visit Sandeshkhali today.
Union Minister Annapurna Devi is the convener of the high-level committee. The other members of the committee are: Pratima Bhoumik, BJP MPs Sunita Duggal, Kavita Patidar, Sangeeta Yadav, and Brij Lal. The team will visit the area, speak with the victims, and submit a report to National President JP Nadda. The committee members arrived in Kolkata last night.
JP Nadda expressed his concern over the breakdown of law and order in West Bengal, describing the events in Sandeshkhali as heartbreaking. He condemned the escalating violence against women and the prevalence of hooliganism in the state, while also criticizing Mamata Banerjee’s administration for its inaction.
In Sandeshkhali, women have been protesting for several days, alleging atrocities committed against them by TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh and his associates. They accused Sheikh and his ‘gang’ of forcibly capturing land and subjecting women to sexual harassment. Sheikh has been absconding since last month, following an attack on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team that had gone to raid his residence in connection with a ration scam.
