New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone for a 300 MW solar power plant in Rajasthan today, as per an official statement from the Ministry of Coal. This project, with an investment exceeding Rs 1,756 crore, aims to ensure affordable power supply to government entities, aligning with the Atma Nirbhar Bharat initiative.
The power plant, situated in Barsingsar within Rajasthan’s Bikaner district, is being developed by NLC India Limited, a prominent Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Coal, as part of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy’s CPSE Scheme. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, including high-efficiency bifacial modules manufactured in Bharat, this solar project aims to contribute significantly to Bharat’s renewable energy goals.
The electricity generated by the plant will be transmitted through the existing power transmission lines at Barsingsar Thermal Power Station. It is anticipated to produce approximately 750 million units of green power annually, thereby offsetting carbon dioxide emissions by around 18,000 million metric tonnes throughout its operational lifespan.
The project, scheduled for commissioning by September 2024, will create job opportunities for approximately 600 individuals during the project phase and for 100 personnel during the operations and maintenance phases.
