New Delhi: Maldives has confirmed its participation in the joint naval exercise ‘MILAN 2024’ organized by the Indian Navy. The decision comes amidst strained diplomatic relations between the two nations, fueled by Chinese connections of Maldives President and recent derogatory remarks aimed at the Prime Minister.
Scheduled to take place in Visakhapatnam from February 19 to 27, MILAN 2024 will witness the participation of naval contingents from over 50 countries. Some of the other countries participating in MILAN 2024 are the UK, Japan, Malaysia, Canada, Spain, Germany, Italy, South Korea, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar, Iraq, Brazil and Yemen. MILAN 24 underscores Bharat’s commitment to nurturing partnerships, exchanging ideas, and collectively enhancing maritime security.
Maldives, represented by its Navy delegation led by Lt. Col. Yoosuf Nishar, will partake in the exercise.The announcement follows two rounds of high-level core group meetings between the two sides, where Maldives’s participation in MILAN was extensively discussed.
