Arrested Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan has been remanded to 10-day police custody by a Basirhat court. He was apprehended by the West Bengal Police after being on the run for 55 days.
Sheikh Shahjahan has been accused of sexual atrocities and land grab in Sandeshkhali. He was arrested from a house in Minakhah in the North 24 Pargana district where he had been hiding, according to the the police.
Sheikh was produced before the court in Basirhat around 10.40 am after his arrest from Minakhan in the early hours. The state police sought 14 days of custody but the court granted 10 days.
West Bengal CID has taken over the investigation of cases lodged against TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh, according to officials.
