Navi Mumbai: Former Intel India country head Avtar Saini lost his life in an accident while he was cycling in Navi Mumbai. The 68-year-old was cycling along Palm Beach Road in the Nerul area when he was struck by a speeding cab, authorities reported.
According to police statements, Avtar Saini was riding with a group of fellow cyclists at approximately 5:50 am when the cab collided with him from behind. The driver attempted to flee the scene, leaving Avtar Saini’s bicycle trapped under the cab’s front wheels.
Avtar Saini’s companions rushed him to a nearby hospital, but tragically, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Hailing from suburban Chembur, Avtar Saini was renowned for his contributions to Intel, notably his involvement in the development of the Intel 386 and 486 microprocessors. He also played a pivotal role in leading the design of the company’s iconic Pentium processor.
The Police has registered an FIR against the cab driver under various Indian Penal Code sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by doing an act rashly or negligently so as to endanger human life) and 304-A (causing death of any person by doing any rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide), and provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
