Kolkata: The CBI custody of Sheikh Shahjahan, the main accused in the Sandeshkhali sexual assault case has been extended. The Basirhat court has extended his custody for another four days. The court also directed him to appear before it again on March 14.
Sheikh Shahjahan was remanded to CBI custody on March 6 following the Calcutta High Court’s order. The court had transferred the investigation to the CBI after Shahjahan attempted to attack ED officials. The Calcutta High Court also instructed that all case-related information be provided to the CBI.
Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan is the prime accused in the Sandeshkhali sexual assault case. After being on the run for 56 days, he was arrested on February 29. Following his arrest, Shahjahan was suspended from the party for six years.
