New Delhi: The Central Government has banned 18 Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms and associated social media accounts for their involvement in disseminating obscene, vulgar, and pornographic content.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced that 18 OTT platforms, 19 websites, and 10 apps (seven on the Google Play Store and three on the Apple App Store) have been blocked, along with 57 linked social media accounts, and it has restricted access to these platforms across Bharat.
The decision to take action against the offending OTT platforms was made under the provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000, in consultation with various ministries and departments of the government, as well as domain experts specialising in media and entertainment, women’s rights, and child rights.
Among the apps that have been blocked are Dreams Films, Chikooflix, Prime Play, Voovi, Yessma, Uncut Adda, Tri Flicks, X Prime, Neon X VIP, Besharams, Hunters, Rabbit, Xtramood, Nuefliks, MoodX, Mojflix, Hot Shots VIP, and Fugi.
