Thiruvananthapuram: The distribution of Easter-Vishu subsidized items across Supplyco outlets in the state is facing delays. Alongside the existing subsidized goods, the food department planned to include Easter-Vishu subsidized food items. However, due to a shortage of subsidized rice, K-Rice is being distributed under subsidized categories, stated the Food Department.
On the inaugural distribution day of K-rice, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, GR Anil, disclosed that reduced-price food items would be available for Easter, in addition to subsidized products. Subsidies would extend to various food items, including pulses. However, Supplyco is yet to allocate funds for the Vishu-Easter price-reduced items.
Currently, Supplyco outlets are experiencing shortages, with 11 subsidized items unavailable. Disappointed customers returning empty-handed from Supplyco outlets. Despite this, the government has declared its intention to distribute other items at reduced prices. While Chief Minister’s assertion that Supplyco represents the state’s brand, a viable solution to the shortage of items is yet to be identified.
