Thiruvananthapuram: A dispute over the construction of a booth office in connection with the elections in Neyyattinkara escalated into a conflict. Workers from CPI(M) and CPI clashed with each other. According to reports, differences in opinion over the roofing of the booth office led to the conflict. During the incident, CPI(M) workers vandalized a vehicle parked in front of CPI branch secretary Sanal’s house.
CPI leader, Pannyan Raveendran, is the candidate from the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency for LDF. The dispute over the construction of a booth office in Chembarathi began on the 14th of March. While one group claimed that an ordinary sheet is sufficient for roofing, others argued that a sheet is unnecessary due to the heat and that a shamiana would be enough. This disagreement escalated into a clash.
Under the leadership of Neyyattinkara MLA K Ansalan, the clash was settled on March 22. However, the CPI workers who went back after the discussion beat up the CPI(M) branch secretary. In retaliation, CPI(M) activists entered Sanal’s home and vandalized the vehicle there. The Neyyatinkara police have registered a case in the incident. As the elections near, the problem is becoming a headache for the leaders. Mediation talks are also being conducted by the leaders.
