Thrissur: A huge gathering of sanyasis and holy men from across Kerala gathered at Thrissur for the ‘Sanyasi Mahasangamom’ and called for social reforms to eradicate casetism and wrong customs prevailing in the temples and society.
The proclamation of the Mahasangamom also demanded that temples must be centers for spirituality training, service, and care. The proclamation added that customs in certain temples like hanging on hooks, the ban on wearing shirts etc must be removed.
The Mahasangamom Proclamation stated that the basic identity of the society is spirituality and its name is Sanatana Dharma. The proclamation also called for resisting the attacks against Sanatana Dharma. The proclamation said that efforts must be taken to stop the use of alcohol and drugs which destroys families. Families must be encouraged to do mantra chanting, observe fasts and rituals.
The concluding session of the ‘Sanyasi Mahasangamom’ was attended by around 400 sanyasis belonging to different traditions of Hinduism in Kerala. Swami Adhyatmananda Saraswati of Sambhod Foundation presented the proclamation of the ‘Sanyasi Mahasangamom’ during the final session.
Swami Chidanandapuri of Advaithashram delivered the keynote address at the gathering.
Before the final session, all the sanyasis and seers led a mantra chanting procession through Swaraj Road and circumambulated the VadakkumnathanTemple and gathered at the ‘Thekegopuram’.
The gathering was organized by the Margadarshak Mandal of the Vishva Hindu Parishad.
