Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government continues to neglect the disbursement of Uniform funds to government schools. Many government schools, which were supposed to receive the funds by the commencement of the academic year in June 2023, have only received them now, in March 2024.
Teachers’ unions from Kerala state are initiating protests against this negligence on the part of the Kerala government. Following the non-payment of funds by the government, teachers and parents of many government schools collected funds and bought uniforms for the students.
Despite several requests made by various school authorities and teachers’ associations, the government did not release the funds. In this situation, the funds that were supposed to be disbursed at the beginning of the academic year in June 2023 have been sanctioned at the end of the academic year in March 2024, after around 10 months.
The government has now sanctioned funds for students’ uniforms in the Upper Primary (UP) category. However, the amount has not yet been transferred to the students’ bank accounts. In this situation, the school authorities have requested that the government should not continue to neglect the issue and have urged for immediate necessary actions to be taken.
