Thrissur: The Guruvayur temple witnessed a record number of devotees on Thursday (March 28) due to the arrival of successive holidays. The temple’s income has also increased significantly.
The temple’s Nadavaravu (total offerings) exceeded Rs 64.59 lakh on a single day, with 42 marriages and 456 Choroonu (infant feeding) ceremonies also taking place. Rs 15.63 lakh was received from Neivilakku Vazhipadu (ghee lamp offering) alone. More than 1560 people made Neivilakku offerings costing Rs 1000. Rs 17.43 lakh was received through Tulabharam ceremony, and Rs 6.57 lakh was received through Palpayasam (Kheer) offering.
There has been a rush for darshan since yesterday morning. After the afternoon puja, the shrine closed at 2.15 pm. At 3.30 pm, the temple reopened for shiveli and darshan. As part of the summer vacation, the darshan time has been extended by one hour.
