Thrissur: CPI (M) Thrissur district secretary MM Varghese has informed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a mail that he will not be able to attend the interrogation in the Karuvannur black money case. In his email sent to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), MM Varghese said that as he is the CPI (M) district secretary of Thrissur, he should go along with the Lok Sabha candidates to submit nomination papers in Alathur, Thrissur, and Chalakudy constituencies. It was also conveyed through the email that he would not be able to appear before ED until the 26th of this month.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had directed MM Varghese to appear today in the Karuvannur bank scam case. The Prime Minister has assured Alathur candidate Prof. TN Sarasu that a thorough investigation would persist in the black money case. Subsequently, the ED has intensified its actions. The ED has forwarded information about CPI (M)’s secret accounts to the Finance Ministry, the Reserve Bank, and the Election Commission.
According to the ED’s findings, CPI (M) is holding five secret accounts in the Karuvannur cooperative bank. These accounts were opened by breaching the rules of cooperative law, which require membership to open the accounts. Additionally, the ED has identified 25 accounts across various cooperative banks under 17 area committees in Thrissur.
