Kochi: The Kerala High Court has given its approval for conducting summer vacation classes in CBSE and ICSE-affiliated schools across the state. The classes are permitted to be held from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Schools that are not operating under the Kerala Education Rules (KER) calendar are allowed to hold these summer vacation classes.
According to a report, the court stated that government and aided schools are not permitted to conduct summer vacation classes since there is no provision for issuing special orders for holding such classes in these schools.
However, the division bench, comprising Justice Mohammed Mushtaq and Justice MA Abdul Hakeem, clarified that the government can issue special order for holding special classes in CBSE and ICSE-affiliated schools.
The decision came in response to a petition filed by the Kerala CBSE School Management Association, the Council of CBSE Schools Kerala, and others. Previously, a single bench of the High Court had ruled that vacation classes could proceed with parental consent. However, the division bench overturned this ruling, stating that it was incorrect.
