Thiruvananthapuram: The Vanchiyoor Judicial Magistrate court granted bail to Sriram Venkitaraman IAS in the death of journalist, K. A. Basheer, after the car which was allegedly driven by Sriram hit Basheer who was travelling on a motorcycle.
Eye witness and co passenger Wafa said that Sriram was driving the car and was drunk when accident happened. However, the blood test showed no trace of alcohol.
The court declined the police request to have him in police custody for further investigations. They said they wanted the civil-servant’s custody to gather more evidence in to the accident.
The court declined the police request on the basis of his medical report. The report suggests that he must be under observation for 72 hours.
The advocate of Siraj newspaper, where Basheer worked, asked the court to order a dopamine test on Sriram to find if he had used drugs on that fateful day.
