Kannur: Heavy rains and strong winds continue in Kannur district. The water has entered into the premises of Parashinikadavu Muthappan Temple. Strong winds in Kottiyoor has damaged the roof of a school but no injuries or casualties have been reported. The Vallapattanam river is overflowing due to which Iritty is flooded.
About 15 houses on the river banks have been submerged. As per reports five hundred families have been stranded. Those houses which were not affected in the floods last year have now been flooded.
However there are no reports of casualties, but 300 acres of farmlands have destroyed.
In Iritty town many shops were flooded. The water level in the river has increased drastically. Complaints have been made that residents of the river bank were not warned earlier.
About 15 houses in an area in Irikkur are in a dilapidated condition. 30 families have been relocated from Iritty. Chances are likely that more people will be shifted to relief camps.
