Wayanadu: Heavy rain is wrecking havoc in many parts of the state. Northern Kerala is most affected with mudslides being reported from the hilly district of Wayanad. Military has been put into relief service.
The Cochin International Airport at Nedumbasherry is closed till midnight.
A disastrous mudslide has been reported at Meppadi in Wayanad where visuals of a church being wiped out is been spread in social media. Also a church and temple have also been swept away. Many people are feared to have caught up in the mudslide.
Around eight persons are feared dead and 9,500 transferred to relief camps till now. The Chief Minister conveyed a meeting to take stock of the situation. More NDRF teams are requested to assist in the relief works. Already two teams have been sent to Nilambur and Idukki.
Meanwhile, all University exams and Kerala Public Service exams have been postponed. Educational institutions will remain closed in 12 districts in the state.
The shutters of a few dams have been opened and rivers are overflowing.
