Kozhikode : Special Gramasabha has passed resolution that demanded and end to the proceedings for the quarry, at Chengottumala in Kottoor Panchayath near Balusherry of Kozhikod district. Ward No: 17 has also passed the same resolution, now that the district governing body is forced to withdraw all the permissions given for the quarry including the one bares environmental clearance.

In Ward no : 17 people flooded to Moolaad L.P School since morning to take part in the Gramapanchayat against the quarry. Localities fall in queue to sign the minutes of the meeting. For the first time Chengottumala witnessed people’s participation in its optimum level. All the 370 participants of the Gramasabha demanded the same thing ; no to the quarry.

In the valleys of Chengottumala Ward no: 2 and Ward No : 4 had already stood up against the quarry. Considering the rise of more people’s participation to put and end to the quarry, the district authorities will be at the edge of the knife to take its decision to cancel the environmental clearance permission given to the quarry. The protesters were overwhelmed with the people’s choice to save their habitat.

Delta group with the support of CPM was stopped by the protesters for the past eight months. The protesters find a ray of hope with the resolution passed against the quarry by the Ward No: 17.
